Meet your local guide
Hi! I'm Carol Hobbs and have been a Nome resident for a dozen years. From the first time I walked down those Alaska Airlines steps and set my feet on Nome land, I knew I was home. I was born in Canada and spent most of my childhood among the Nishnawbe Aski Nation of northern Ontario.
I've always loved history, and Nome's history is no exception. I've loved learning about traditional dwellings of indigenous people, how mail was delivered in 1900 (it wasn't), and how many fires and Bering Sea storms have battered our little town through the years. I won't pretend I know everything, but I'd love to share the wildly interesting facts I've learned.

My husband, Daniel, and I have raised our five adult kids in Nome, and much to our surprise and delight, our kids have decided to settle in Nome as well. Daniel is a nurse in the Emergency Room at our local hospital and each of our kids are employed by local businesses, using their unique skill sets to benefit the entire Norton Sound region.
I offer short day hikes, guided beach walks on Nome's golden sands beaches (it's highly unlikely you'll find any gold nuggets lying about!), historical walking tours, historical driving tours, and customized tours.
If you don't see a tour that works for you, please contact me. I'll do my best to accommodate your schedule and sites.
